Tom Meyers, Fort Lee Director of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, speaks about the exploits of Thomas Paine with General George Washington on the Palisades during the American Revolution to passengers on the A.J. Meerwald, a 1920s oyster schooner, which sailed out of the Alpine Boat Basin on Sunday, July 18, on a fund-raising cruise to erect a statue of Paine in Fort Lee.  Mr. Meyers said the boat ride was a success, raising $2,000.  Cost of the statue is estimated at $128,000.  Mr. Meyers said about $40,000 more is needed to complete the project.
