Volunteer Center of Bergen County program offers gift-givers alternative
By Robyn Nadel
As an alternative this holiday season, the Volunteer Center of Bergen County (VCBC) offers an alternative to gift giving this holiday season.
The “Do Good, Feel Good, Give Good” program allows a person to make a donation in another’s name, instead of giving a conventional gift, solving the question ‘what do you give a person who has everything’?
Gift-givers can choose a gift that may have special meaning for the recipient, or that supports a Volunteer Center program or service that is of interest to them. For instance, a donation can be used towards the purchase of a gift card for groceries for a needy family, to support a home repair service for elderly persons in need or to recruit and train a mentor for a child who has suffered from abuse. The gift will be acknowledged with a customized card sent to the person being honored, along with a brief description of the program or service the gift supports.
Gift donations can be made on-line at www.bergenvolunteers.org. Click on “Give Good” for a list of all gift options. Gift donations purchased on-line by noon on Monday, Dec. 21 will be delivered by Saturday, Dec. 25.
“Making a gift to charity in someone’s name is a way to honor that person while making your dollars do good,” says Janet Sharma, executive director of the VCBC.
“Donors will not only do good, they will feel good,” Ms. Sharma continues. Visit www.bergenvolunteers.org, or call 201-489-9454, ext. 125 for information.
