Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program.SM This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide “An Outstanding Inpatient Experience.”

The Valley Hospital is the only hospital to receive this designation for eight consecutive years, and was the first in the tri-state area to receive this recognition.

“In achieving this distinction for an eighth year, the nurses, physicians, technicians, and support staff and administrators at The Valley Hospital have demonstrated a deep passion for delivering excellence in patient experience,” said John Clark, director of provider programs at J.D. Power and Associates. “This recognition places The Valley Hospital among an elite group of hospitals that exhibit operational excellence, while simultaneously creating a unique caring, healing environment for patients. This is a tremendous achievement that everyone within the hospital and the community it serves should celebrate.”

The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying recently discharged patients about their perceptions of their hospital visit and comparing the results to the national benchmarks established in the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study.SM

The telephone-based research conducted among The Valley Hospital patients focuses on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction with their overall inpatient experience. These drivers, which were identified in the national study, are speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.

The Valley Hospital exceeds the national benchmark study score for inpatient satisfaction and performs particularly well, compared with the national study, in providing patients with dignity and respect. The hospital receives particularly high ratings for the courtesy of the doctors.

The hospital also performs well in providing patients with emotional support, particularly with instilling confidence and trust in the skill levels of the doctors.

Seventy-seven percent of The Valley Hospital patients surveyed say they would likely return to the facility if needed. In addition, 78 percent of patients say they would recommend the facility to friends and family.

“It is an honor to be recognized by our patients for providing exceptional care and service, and we are particularly proud that Valley has been recognized eight times in a row,” said Audrey Meyers, president and CEO of The Valley Hospital. “At Valley, we recognize how important it is to provide our patients with an outstanding hospital experience. It is this commitment that has allowed us to again be recognized in the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program.”

Nongovernmental, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition for inpatient, maternity, cardiovascular, emergency and outpatient services. Distinction is valid for one year, after which time the hospital may reapply for this recognition.

Advanced Physical Medicine Center is a full-service physical wellness practice offering the latest physical therapy, chiropractic care, pain management and massage therapy to local residents for more nearly 20 years. Since 1993, the Center’s food drives have raised more than $10,000 worth of desperately needed food for hundreds of Fairview families.

“We are thrilled to contribute whatever we can to this worthy cause with cases of non-perishable food including canned and dry goods such as vegetables, soup, instant potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy and stuffing mix,” said Dr. Arber, Advanced Physical Medicine Center’s clinical director. “During these tough economic times, this is one small way to make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who need it most.”

“The holiday season is the most difficult time of year for our families, said Joann Panzarino, director of general assistance for the Fairview Welfare Department. “A simple Thanksgiving dinner costs pennies to contributors but is worth millions to recipients.”

Dr. Michael E. Arber, DC, DAAPM, is a nationally recognized chiropractor and clinical director of Advanced Physical Medicine Center. He has been practicing for 18 years and has earned the distinction of “2002 Chiropractor of the Year” by his peers nationwide. He leads an elite team of experts including chiropractors, licensed physical therapists and massage therapists, a staff physiatrist (pain management physician) and a medical doctor. Dr. Arber and his team can be reached at (201) 945-1156. For more information, people can visit their Web site at www.advancedphysicalmedicinecenter.com.

I would like to enroll my puppy in your obedience training and wonder if you offer the Star puppy program I heard about?

I want my puppy to be a great family and community member!

Thanks,

Jennifer C., Lyndhurst NJ

A. Dear Jennifer,

Yes, I do offer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program! This new program is designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start! Pure breed or mixed breed pups are able to enroll. You can visit my website page here for more information:

http://www.helpihaveadog.com/training/akc-canine-good-citizens-test/

Training classes teach you how to best communicate with your puppy. Organized training classes also provide an opportunity for your puppy or dog to socialize with other canines! My classes are aimed at helping you and your puppy earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction! You’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called.

When you complete a basic training class taught by me (or another AKC Approved CGC Evaluator) with your puppy (up to 1 year old) your puppy is eligible to be enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. You’ll attend my puppy or basic training class at least 6 weeks. Then I will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end of the course. Upon passing the test, you’ll get an application to send to AKC® for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program.

Your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal! You and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records!
