<p>LEONIA – The varsity softball team from Leonia high school, The Lady Lions, consisting of players from both Edgewater and Leonia, competed on the weekend of July 10 in the UGALS 17U summer softball tournament.</p>
<p>The tournament featured 14 teams from both New York and New Jersey including several tough club teams. The team advanced to the semifinals by beating Emerson/Cresskill, 2-1, Hawthorne, 7-3, and the Cobras, 9-0.</p>
<p>The Hohokus Bobcats knocked them out of the tournament in a tough hard fought game, 3-1. Led by strong outings by pitchers Heather Ronchi and Diane Quail, the Lady Lions played superb defense turning six double plays in the tournament. Captains, Nicole Schlobach and Katelyn Malloy, led a powerful offense that included Miya Okado, Jessica Ragone, Natalie Labrada, Angelice Grasso, Monica Niera, and Ursula Castiblanco.</p>
